Trauma-focused therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

A structured therapy that can support the processing of trauma and distressing life experiences.

About EMDR

Supporting the processing of distressing memories

Traumatic memories can include images, sounds, bodily sensations, smells or tastes that continue to trigger distress in the present.

EMDR uses a structured framework to support the processing of these memory components. Work is tailored to complex or layered experiences and paced according to your capacity and readiness.

EMDR may also be used with some future-focused fears, phobias and anticipatory anxiety.

Assessment first

EMDR is not the starting point for everyone

EMDR is offered only after assessment and preparation. It forms part of a broader therapeutic approach and may not be suitable for every person or at every stage of therapy.

The therapeutic process remains collaborative. You can ask questions, discuss concerns and pause or change direction.
